Senior Design Manager

Tâches

  • To lead and develop the Preconstruction function for all tenders, negotiations, cost plans and cost advice for construction works. 
  • Lead and develop a culture of excellence with the design process in accordance with the design programme and design management control documents (DMP, DIRM, IRS etc), to ensure the highest quality offering in terms of competition, and the successful execution of projects on site. 
  • Develop, demonstrate, and maintain the highest standards of offering from the Pre-Construction design function in relation to accuracy, risk assessment and predictability of outcome. Develop and update as necessary the Pre-Construction design process to reflect changes in approach in quality management and technology usage.
  •  Lead and contribute to design team meetings, including specialist sub-contractor workshops. 
  • Drive quality outcomes that enhance buildability. 
  • Promote excellent customer relationships and ambitious CDP partnerships. 
  • Sustain collaborative communications (verbal, written and formal) with internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned to our contractual commitments, compliance responsibilities and STRABAG guiding principles.  
  • Active participation in the alignment of the design programme with commercial schedules and operational key milestones, ensuring monthly progress reporting (MPR) are aligned to common objectives. Key input to ensure co-ordination of the Operations / Commercial / Design triangle.  
  • Embrace STRABAG approach to safety “STOP! THINK! ACT! 1 2 3 Choose SAFETY” at all stages of design development and digital iteration.  
  • Manage the Common Data Environment (CDE) ensuring approvals are achieved on/ahead of programme.  Oversee all digital design information / BIM activities in partnership with members of the project team. 
  • Lead the documentation review process developing collaborative working relationships with all partners.  Where project requirements dictate, this will also include the management of MEP design information in conjunction with visiting MEP support.
  • Manage the approval of samples and technical submittals.
  • Ensure all design information is checked for compliance with Employers Requirements. 
  • Manage and monitor the design aspects of ‘change control’, liaising with all stakeholders regarding opportunities and potential risks.   
  • Manage third party consents, including but not limited to, planning permissions, building control and all other statutory legislation (including CDM). 
  • Manage and coordinate sustainability objectives including BREEAM and Net Zero Carbon. Drive the evidence gathering process, together with the project team, to ensure smooth conclusion of the certification process.   
  • Complete monthly reporting activities in accordance with contractual and company requirements, reporting diligently regarding project/company KPI’s. 
  • Lead negotiation activities and final agreement of consultant(s) scope of services. 
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures with a high level of professionalism maintained throughout.
  • Ensure O&M information is organised and reviewed for accuracy using the agreed workflow. 
  • Understand and implement archiving in accordance with the Employers Requirements. 
  • Develop high functioning relationships with pre-construction and operational teams to ensure submissions are reflective of actual operational experience and captures lessons learnt, including attendance on project reviews to collate data and incorporate into future strategies.
  • Contribute to the management of key Supply Chain relationships to ensure STRABAG secure the best value, competitive offering during tender preparation, and evaluation is accordance with Common Project Standards 2.4.2 considering criteria such as solvency, quality, capability, sustainability and HSSE. 
  • Develop high functioning relationships with other STRABAG Divisions, Sub-Divisions and Business Units to successfully integrate team and Joint-Venture strategies and business strategies to use in-house capabilities on all opportunities.
  • Participate in the governance process to ensure the outputs from the Common Procedures System (CPS) are accurately reflected and presented for approvals at each gateway. 
  • In conjunction with the senior Pre-Construction team take an active role in key client management, including negotiations and developing client specific offerings. 
  • In conjunction with the Preconstruction Director and Technical Director (and teams) develop bid winning and profit improvement strategies. 
  • Develop and implement bid / opportunity specific strategies to ensure the correct approach is taken to EOI, PQQ, cost plans, single stage tenders, two stage tenders, negotiations, and supporting PCSAs. 
  • In conjunction with the Preconstruction team develop and embed a strong and executable win strategy within the offering, including developing “Route to Margin” strategies. 

Vos qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Architecture, Construction Management, Civil Engineering 
  • CSCS Card
  • Proven successful experience in Building projects, including undertaking the role of Design Manager 
  • Extensive variety in types of work bid
  • Experience of Private and Public sector Clients
  • IT Literate 
  • Full clean driving licence 
  • Membership of professional institution 
  • Experience of Industrial and Logistic Sector 
  • Experience of Secure Sector
