Understand all aspects of tunnelling
design including static analysis, segment design, tunnel lining dimensioning
(TBM and SCL), ground improvement, face support etc.
Contributing to the design of
large-scale infrastructure projects mainly in UK
assisting in the development of
conceptual design and producing engineering details in accordance with project
requirements
Site visits and attending client meetings,
Prepare and check calculations and writing reports

Ability to collect all required information and communicate with interfacing parties.
A good understanding of engineering geology, ground risk management, ground movement assessment and mitigation, considering constructability and other relevant aspects (e.g. environmental issues, cost and programme).
Experience in tunnel design, numerical calculation methods (e.g. FEM) and CAD software.
Facilitate technical reports, presenting design results to a wider audience or discussing relevant decisions with the client’s specialists.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Good knowledge of relevant British and EU standards and codes
The capacity to mentor and to provide guidance to less experienced design engineers, while producing conceptual and detailed designs, preparing / checking calculations for a variety of tunnelling / civil engineer structures
Sound analytical ability and a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and current design standards
The ability to communicate and liaise effectively and professionally with the design team, clients and contractors

Design experience across a range of tunnel / underground engineering structures
TBM Tunnelling Design
Good understanding of tunnelling and geotechnical principles. SCL tunnelling design knowledge appreciated
Knowledge and understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training
Knowledge of construction techniques and best practice
Computer competence CAD (Autocad / Bentley Products)
Shaft Lining Design Experience desirable
